Medications for nonallergic rhinitis include: Nasal antihistamines. Prescription products such as azelastine (Astelin) and olopatadine (Patanase) can relieve symptoms of postnasal drip, congestion, and sneezing within minutes. They are most effective when used on a regular basis.Chronic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis can be caused by an infection, growths in the sinuses (nasal polyps) or by a deviated septum. Signs and symptoms may include nasal obstruction or congestion that causes difficulty breathing through your nose, and pain and swelling around your eyes, cheeks, nose or forehead.The role of bacteria in the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis remains debatable; however, an early diagnosis and intensive treatment with oral antibiotics, topical nasal steroids, decongestants, and saline nasal sprays results in symptom relief in a significant number of patients, many of whom can be cured.
